[f.r] just wow. an excellent first release from mu arae - this album brings to life solemn themes of loneliness, anxiety, and yearning; wrapped in a warm, ethereal blanket of ambience and texture. recommended listening experience is with headphones in a dark environment. Favorite track: Colorless.

Living in the memory What could've been, couldn't be But how can I let you go When you're a part of me Please don't leave How to get up off the ground Shed the weight of which I'm bound Trust in what will come around It always comes around Trust in this It's just the way it is It's just the way it is It's just the way it is We're all on our way Back home

The devil was in my ear Persuading me to take my life And so I ran away, in search for god And I found her sitting and weeping Under a sycamore tree that had been lifeless Drained of its sap As I approached her She transformed into ashes As she whispered to me To warn them Of the storm to come And the sound of great mother's weeps still echo in my mind And it pierced my heart like needles And so here's the fucking warning Of the storms to come And the great sycamore Will rise again The storms to come

At the altar An offering has been made Written into the cosmos When the light began to fade When darkness settles The flames arise Bringing new light The weeds that were flowers in disguise, ignite Burning, in the garden of embers From the ashes, grows the Iris Flower In its petals, shines new life As tomorrow comes, you'll find yourself lost in the hourglass But have faith for the Iris sees through the sands of time And the ashes that came from embers Will guide the way

Long ago In a land between two rivers The people gathered as the great mother spoke Though chaos will unfold And illusion will swallow most Fear nothing Fear nothing Inside your heart is our home And though paradise will fall It will rise again We will rise again You will hear the call You will hear my songs Fear nothing In the face of war Our kingdom will rise again Chaos is only beginning's end The child will run free The lands will be blessed Your great mother will be home again She will be home again

about

The debut release of Mu Arae's 'Petals Of The Iris Flower' is an exploratory sonic representation of life, death, and rebirth. Through dense atmospheres, hypnotic drones, broken beats, and gritty basslines the album follows a dichotomy of darkness and light. Three phases with ambiguous interpretations of the struggles and triumphs each one of us goes through in a lifetime.
------------------
Phase 1- Life

Lost Sands
Haunt
Anima
Guiding Light
------------------
Phase 1 interprets the heaviness of life, touching on feelings of self doubt, grief, loneliness, and uncertainty

------------------
Phase 2 - Death

Ara (The Altar)
Colorless
Ephemeral
Oblivion
------------------
Phase 2 is a representation of spiritual death. 'Ara (The Altar)' symbolizes the sacrifice that is made in order to either heal or continue living in darkness. 'Colorless' embodies the lifelessness of deep sorrow and longing for life, while 'Ephemeral' stoically follows up with the message that all aspects of life are temporary. And last in this phase 'Oblivion' embodies the death that happens before rebirth

------------------
Phase 3 - Rebirth

Under The Sycamore
The Ashes That Came From Embers
Between Two Rivers
Petals Of The Iris Flower
------------------
In the final phase of the album, Mu Arae eloquently defines the album with spoken word in 'The Ashes That Came From Embers' referencing songs from the album. Telling the story of reclaiming life's energy & light through death in order to be reborn.

Powerful messages from MOTNK about fighting back the darkness that burdens ourselves and the world in 'Under The Sycamore' and coming back, fortified, to our light in 'Between Two Rivers'.

To wrap up the album is the title track, symbolizing the difficulty and chaos of being reborn and coming back to one's self. Light has been regained and darkness will undoubtedly try to dim the light. But the ashes that came from the embers will guide the way.

Petals Of The Iris Flower: recorded with a Deepmind12, noise section is sound design done by Mu Arae for Amber Barney-Nivon's multi-media art installation titled "Honey Venom" in 2016

Whispers throughout the album are recorded by Mu Arae at the time of writing 'Guiding Light' back in 2017. A poem about life and death was whispered into a mic and then layered many times over to create a jumble of incomprehensible voices symbolizing self-doubt and the theme of darkness the album has weaved into it.
